Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
