Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
